I planted ...I think it depends on how big they are. I planted 1-gallon coonties in Spring 2010 and some of the females began producing seeds within 18 -24 months. Larger starter plants would produce seeds faster, I suspect. Others are producing seeds this year, in their third year in my yard. It does take several months for the seeds to germinate in the ground, but be patient and remember they are slow growers.
